  • Nimrod was a biblical figure and the king of Mesopotamia and described as a “mighty hunter”. In an early Looney Tunes cartoon from 1932, Bugs referred to Elmer Fudd as Nimrod as an ironic reference to him being a poor hunter. Obviously the joke was too obscure for most people and they just parroted the word “Nimrod” thinking it was an insult.
